These two precious female cubs were welcomed into the world on Wednesday the 8th of December, making them just one day off being exactly four months. Taronga's Carnivore Keepers worked closely with some special partners and have decided on the names Daiyu - which means 'black jade' and Zeya meaning success.

Both names pay tribute to the native homelands of the Red Panda, with Daiyu being of Chinese origin and Zeya of Burmese origin. The characteristics of the black jade stone include power and protection which is the perfect fit for Daiyu as keepers report that although she may be slightly smaller than Zeya she is more vocal and is actually more confident at climbing trees.
Zeya, who is slightly lighter and fluffier than Daiyu is physically quite bigger than Daiyu and displays her strength when she is wrestling her sister.
Keepers report that both cubs are growing in size and confidence every day are weighing in at approximately 1.3-1.5kg
Both cubs are beginning to venture out more regularly from their nestbox, however, we will see this behaviour to increase in the next coming weeks as the rain settles and the sunshine. The adorable duo are starting to transition from their mum Amala’s milk and a consuming a panda porridge which is a mix of milk and panda bars.
